AT Mile 9 along Bushenyi-Mbarara highway an accident occurred that claimed lives of three , Monday morning.
According to a statement released by police through the Superintendent, kananura Michael CLO Directorate of Traffic & Road safety, three people have died in a fatal road crash today on the 4th November 2024 at approximately 07:35 Mile 9 along Mbarara-Bushenyi road in Mbarara.
The crash involved motor vehicles UBK951Q Toyota hiace, UAX318V Grand mark II and UAZ 899J.Kananura, in statement said that the initial incident occurred when the driver of Mark II traveling from Bushenyi to Mbarara side while at mile 9 lost control while dodging a pothole, collided with an oncoming Toyota wish killing instantly 2 people including the driver and passenger of a Mark II, injuring 7 others all occupants of Toyota wish.
“Secondary incident occurred when a speeding Toyota hiace traveling from Bushenyi side at a high speed struck and killed one of the victims being removed from the crash scene, driver failed to stop and was intercepted at a police checkpoint in Mbarara.”
He added that Police promptly responded, rushing victims to Mbarara referral hospital and conveying bodies to the mortuary for postmortem and Vehicles towed to kashaka police station for inspections, Inquiries ongoing, noted kananura.
However, in a statement, preliminary causes included over speeding by all the vehicles involved, presence of a pothole in the middle of the road.
Kananura called for action from relevant authorities to repair the pothole and urged motorists to observe speed limits and also exercise caution when approaching accident scenes.
