Bushenyi, Uganda — In a transformative move to address rampant drug theft and stockouts in Uganda’s health sector, Khaukha M.A. Emmanuel, Guild President of Victoria University Kampala (VU), has officially launched a campaign to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) surveillance and digital tracking into health supply chains.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement in Bushenyi District, Khaukha emphasized the need to monitor drug storage and distribution in real-time.

“We proposed AI-powered systems that can flag suspicious activity and improve transparency in how medical supplies are handled,” he said.
The campaign, which draws on data-driven decision-making, also highlighted the use of AI algorithms to predict drug demand based on historical data and disease outbreak patterns. According to Khaukha, this predictive capacity will ensure timely restocking, reducing the frequency of stockouts that plague regional health centers.
Importantly, the initiative aims to equip local health workers with mobile apps and cloud-based tools to track inventory and report anomalies. “By decentralizing AI access, we empower communities to actively participate in safeguarding public health,” Khaukha noted.
