Brenda Kiconco, a prominent youth leader and gender advocate, has officially announced her candidacy for the National Chairperson position of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League for the 2025–2030 term. Kiconco currently serves as the Assistant Private Secretary to President Museveni on Youth Affairs and holds key leadership roles including Secretary for Female Affairs at the National Youth Council (NYC) Uganda and Executive Director of the BREKIC Foundation.

In her declaration, Kiconco emphasized the need for a shift from rhetoric to concrete action within Uganda’s youth structures. “It’s time to shift from empty promises to actionable programs, from watching from the sidelines to taking the steering wheel,” she said. She urged youth to embody the core values of the NRM—patriotism, pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation—through tangible community impact.
Kiconco, who holds a Master’s Degree in Gender Studies from Makerere University, called for unity among Uganda’s youth, highlighting that while they constitute 75% of the population, numbers alone are insufficient without collective direction. The NRM Youth League elections are expected later this year, and Kiconco’s candidacy is anticipated to inspire strong grassroots support, particularly among young women.
