Musician Elijah Kitaka has issued a candid call to fellow Ugandan artists to refocus on producing quality music, lamenting the current state of the industry. In a recent interview with a local television station, Kitaka criticized the trend where many artists prioritize social media comedy and viral content over releasing meaningful songs.

Kitaka reflected on the golden era of Ugandan music, highlighting legends such as Jose Chameleone, Radio & Weasel, Sheebah, and Bobi Wine, who consistently released music that kept the industry vibrant and booming. “Artistes are just being more like comedians. They are looking at trending instead of releasing music,” he said.

The Swangz Avenue hitmaker emphasized that for the industry to grow, artists must unite and revive the culture of hard work and consistent music production that characterized the previous generation.
