Renowned media personality and political commentator Frank Gashumba has publicly defended his engagement to 26-year-old Malaika Mutoni, addressing the heated social media backlash over their significant age difference. The 49-year-old dismissed critics who accuse him of courting someone much younger, rhetorically asking, “Did you want me to marry Nandujja or Namirembe Bitamazire?” – referencing respected older Ugandan women to highlight the absurdity of the criticism.
Speaking candidly, Gashumba emphasized that Malaika is not underage and accused many detractors of being “failures” envious of his relationship. He further revealed that despite being able to choose partners from affluent Kampala neighborhoods, he found love in Sembabule, underscoring the value of “precious things hidden under.”
Gashumba also explained that their relationship respects cultural traditions, with his family fulfilling customary bride price demands of 12 cows and UGX 6 million in cash. He revealed the couple has been together for over two years, attending events discreetly to protect Malaika from social media harassment. “I’m not moved by social media noise. I know I made the best choice,” he affirmed, highlighting his confidence and commitment to a low-profile married life.
