Ugandan music icon Jose Chameleone, also known as Joseph Mayanja, has confessed to being deeply moved by his own music, even to the point of tears. In a recent interview in Rwanda, where he was performing for fans, Chameleone spoke passionately about his work, recounting how he once broke down after listening to some of his songs.

The Leone Island boss expressed astonishment at his creative process, particularly when writing iconic songs like “Valu Valu.” “I have listened to my own music and cried one day. When I listen to those songs, a lot of things come into my mind. I start to wonder; how did I get there? What was on my mind? Was I mad? Sometimes I walk out of Chameleone and I wonder,” he said.

Chameleone attributes the enduring appeal of his music, which resonates across generations, to his commitment to originality. He emphasized that he avoids being swayed by trending sounds, preferring to maintain his unique musical style.
