Ugandan-Rwandan singer Laika Music, real name Laika Umuhoza, has clarified her booking rates and performance record, dispelling claims that she is not in demand for live shows. In a recent interview, Laika stated that she regularly performs in Kampala as well as other districts such as Mbarara and Jinja, and continues to receive offers from across the country. However, she noted that bookings in distant regions like Northern Uganda, including Arua, often fall through because local promoters are unwilling to meet her fee.

Laika revealed that her standard charge for a 40-minute performance in Arua is UGX 8 million. She justified this rate by outlining the significant expenses involved: “There are high costs for fuel, outfits, makeup, security, and the time I invest,” she explained. The singer emphasized that these logistical and professional considerations are necessary to maintain her performance quality and brand.
Laika’s comments come as she continues to rise in Uganda’s music scene, known for hits like “Overdose,” “Netwalira,” and “My Type,” and for her vibrant stage presence. Her assertive stance on performance fees reflects a broader trend among top Ugandan artists to value their craft and ensure fair compensation for their work.
