The National Unity Platform (NUP) has endorsed City lawyer Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as its flagbearer for the Kawempe North by-election.  Mr Nalukoola beat stiff competition in a crowded party race that included nine other aspirants, including Muhammad Lussa Luwemba, a former aide and confidante of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya who had to change his name, religion and even invoke divine help for the ticket. Mr Ssegirinya, who died on January 9, held the seat for the biggest opposition party by Parliament representation after winning the 2021 race.
