Excitement and political ambition are palpable across Uganda as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) enters the second day of its nomination exercise ahead of the 2026 General Elections. According to Newz Updates, aspirants from all regions have flocked to the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters on Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, as well as district offices nationwide, to pick up Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

Queues began forming as early as 7am, with both seasoned politicians and a new generation of youthful and female contenders eager to secure their place in the party primaries. The nomination window, which opened on June 2 and runs until June 15, was briefly interrupted by Martyrs Day celebrations but quickly regained momentum.

High-profile figures such as Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, and Vice President Jessica Alupo were among those seen collecting forms, underlining the gravity and competitiveness of the process. Regions like Ankole, Busoga, Rwenzori, West Nile, Teso, and Greater Masaka have registered particularly high numbers of aspirants, with Ankole leading at 86.

The NRM Electoral Commission has cautioned against early campaigning and emphasized adherence to the party’s code of conduct. Once nominations close, the party will proceed to internal vetting and primaries to select official flag bearers for the 2026 polls.
