Ugandan rapper Recho Rey has shared candid insights on what it truly takes for artists, especially women, to succeed on the global music stage. Speaking to local media on June 5, 2025, Recho Rey stressed that physical appearance alone is not a sustainable path to international recognition.
“Even if you get offers from men or others who claim they can boost your career, you aren’t guaranteed that you’ll go international. Music selection is everything,” she explained. While acknowledging that looks and fashion can attract attention, Recho Rey emphasized that they cannot replace the power of quality music.

“You can have all the good looks and top fashion, but it’s not enough. At the end of the day, the music has to speak,” she said, underscoring the importance of artistic authenticity and substance.
Recho Rey also described her personality as unpredictable and dynamic, a trait she believes shapes her unique artistic identity and helps her stand out in Uganda’s competitive music industry.
